Lynda T. Bui
Lynda T. Bui is a partner of the Shulman Bastian Friedman & Bui LLP Bankruptcy Department and works in both the Orange County and Riverside offices. Ms. Bui is also a Bankruptcy Panel Trustee in the Central District of California, having been appointed in 2010. Ms. Bui focuses on all aspects of bankruptcy, including representing trustees, debtors, creditors, and both on plaintiffs and defendants in adversary proceedings. Ms. Bui represents clients in a variety of industries including real estate, manufacturing, retail, logistics, banking, grocery, food services, nonprofit, and professional services. Ms. Bui also practices in state court and focuses on fraudulent transfer litigation and commercial debt collection.
Ms. Bui graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and an emphasis in Asian American studies from the University of California, Los Angeles, in 1994. While at UCLA, Ms. Bui actively participated and held leadership positions in various student organizations, including the Asian Pacific Coalition and Vietnamese Student Association. She was also a staff writer and the business manager for Pacific Ties Newsmagazine, a quarterly Asian Pacific Islander magazine at UCLA. Ms. Bui enjoyed studying abroad at la Universidad de Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
Ms. Bui volunteered at non-profit organizations like Asia Watch and SOS Boat People in Washington, D.C., before entering law school at Loyola Law School, where she earned her Juris Doctor in 1998. While at Loyola Law School, Ms. Bui was awarded a scholarship from the Southern California Chinese Lawyers’ Association. She also wrote for the Loyola Lawyer Magazine and was on the Loyola of Los Angeles International and Comparative Law Review.
Active in the professional community, Ms. Bui is on the 2020 Small Business Reorganization Task Force headed by Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the Central District of California Maureen A. Tighe. Ms. Bui served as Alternate Regional Governor for the Southern California Region for the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. She was president of the Orange County Asian American Bar Association for 2008-2009. She previously served as a board member on the California Bankruptcy Forum and co-chaired the Program Book for its Annual Conference, where she has been a speaker for many of the programs through the years. Ms. Bui is also a member of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees, American Bankruptcy Institute, the Orange County Bankruptcy Forum, the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation, South Orange County Chamber of Commerce, Orange County Asian American Bar Association, and Vietnamese American Bar Association, Southern California. She has volunteered her time with programs like Law Day (free legal clinic for Chinese-speaking and Vietnamese-speaking communities) and given seminars on the fundamentals of bankruptcy and various insolvency issues. Ms. Bui also published an article entitled “Fraudulent Transfer: Litigation Under the Bankruptcy Code and State Law” in the California Bankruptcy Journal in February of 2008. The article has been cited by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in In re JTS Corporation, 2010 WL 3122867.
